Companion Animal Shelter and Registrations Fees
The new Regional Companion Animals Shelter commenced operation during May 2002. It can be found by taking the Armidale Airport entrance to Saumarez Road. Follow Saumarez Road to the left and out of the Airport carpark. The entrance to the Shelter is approximately 20 meters past where the road turns to gravel and on the left hand side of the road.
The Shelter is open to the public between 9am-11am and 2:30pm-5:30pm on weekdays and 9am-10am on Saturdays.

The Shelter is closed to the public on Sundays and Public Holidays.
Microchip Implants
Microchip Implants are available from the Animal Shelter during open hours and by appointment outside of open hours. Dogs and Cats over the age of 12 weeks must be protected by permanent identification (microchip implant).
A dog or cat may not be sold or given away unless it is first micro chipped and details of the new owner placed onto the NSW Companion Animals Register. Exemptions include cats born before 1 July 1998 and working dogs.
Lifetime Registration Fees for Dogs and Cats
- Standard Non-desexed - $150
- Desexed animals - $40
- Pensioner for desexed animals only - $15
- Animals not desexed but kept by recognised breeder for breeding purposes - $40
