Armidale’s many volunteers will have their work put on show in the Town Hall next month as part of National Volunteer Week, being held from May 12 to 18.
The Armidale Volunteer Referral Service will be staging a Volunteer Expo in the Armidale Town Hall on Wednesday, May 14, from 10am to 4pm, to showcase the work of Armidale’s volunteers in the city’s not-for-profit sector.
AVRS Co-ordinator Jane Davies said all not-for-profit organizations that employ the services of volunteers were invited to apply for a stall at the Expo.
“Armidale has not hosted a volunteer expo for some years although it is a great opportunity for our member organizations and other not-for-profit organizations in our community to promote the wonderful contribution made to our community by our volunteers” Ms Davies said.
“We are hoping everyone in Armidale will come to visit the Expo to see what a difference volunteers make to our community and to find out what opportunities exist for them to volunteer. Volunteering should be considered by anyone of any age who thinks they may be able to put something back into our community. It is a very satisfying way of contributing and can also lead to you making new friends and building new skills in areas you had never dreamed of.”
Armidale Dumaresq Council’s Manager of Community Services, Jane Guilfoyle, said volunteers were the backbone of many of our community services.
“Without their involvement, we would be unable to offer anything like the level of services we currently have in Armidale,” Ms Guilfoyle said. “I hope the Expo will allow people from the region to see the enormous contribution volunteers make to our community and encourage everyone to think about how they might volunteer and offer their skills to add to our already vibrant community.”
