Community comment sought as Council reviews 2004 Disability Action Plan
The effectiveness of Armidale Dumaresq Council’s 2004 Disability Action Plan (DAP) is currently being evaluated and the community is being encouraged to comment on a range of issues.
The Council’s Aged and Disability Services Team Leader Christine Foord said the 2004 DAP identified a number of areas under the Council’s responsibility that needed work to ensure that people with a disability maintained their independence and dignity.
“With annual funding from the Council, many of these areas have improved significantly and it is now time to assess how these improvement have affected people’s lives,” Mrs Foord said.A summary of achievements of the DAP is available from Mrs Foord at Kent House, Faulkner Street or by phoning 6770 3804.
“The purpose of the evaluation is two fold,” Mrs Foord said. “The community evaluation was to take the form of gathering stories on the most significant changes.
“I am also gathering data about needs that have been identified by people with a disability and/or their carers that can be incorporated into the updated Plan that will run for the next four years.”
While Mrs Foord is undertaking consultation with disability and other community groups to collect data, she was aware there were people with a disability in the community who were not part of a formal support group, and she was keen to gather their opinions.
If you wish to make a submission in the form of a story about how the 2004 DAP has changed some part of your life or if you have a suggestion you would like included in the 2009 - 2013 DAP, contact Mrs Foord at Kent House on 6770 3804 before 9 June 2008.
