Council adopts Management Plan
Armidale Dumaresq Council voted to adopt its Plan of Management and Budget for 2008/09 and in doing so included an additional $105,000 allocation at the community’s request.
The Council’s General Manager Shane Burns said there were 16 submissions to the Plan of Management, with a number of those being in relation to the proposed new Landfill site on Waterfall Way.
“A number of amendments to the Management Plan were made as a result of those submissions that did relate directly to the Budget,” Mr Burns said.
“This included a $25,000 allocation to the ongoing maintenance of Dumaresq Creek; $10,000 to the Ebor Link Project to assist with the implementation of their Community Development Plan; $30,000 to the Domestic Energy Working Party for proposed woodsmoke reduction strategies; $10,000 to the New England Conservatorium of Music (NECOM) towards the purchase of a new piano; $30,000 for the restoration of the Town Hall’s Grand Piano; and a $10,000 increase in allocation of funding towards street lighting,” Mr Burns said.
Armidale Dumaresq Mayor Cr Peter Ducat paid tribute to the Councillors and Council staff who had worked tirelessly during the development of the Management Plan.
“This is a good Budget,” Cr Ducat said. “It has made a commitment to those things that we had to do while also making provision for the number of community requests that were received.
“I believe it is a responsible Budget that delivers as much as we could possibly achieve within the constraints of our funding situation.”
The increase in allocations resulted in a $105,000 total adjustment to the Budget which, after accounting for depreciation costs, will result in a projected Budget deficit of $3.9 million and a cash surplus of around $800,000.
