Armidale Regional Council will be completing the upgrade of the Armidale Sportsground Carpark, providing safe, off-street, all-weather parking for the public when there are sporting or major events at the venue. The construction of the carpark will commence on Tuesday the 10th of September 2024 with the works expected to be completed within 12 weeks, weather permitting.
The project is grant funded by the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Phase 4 fund ($135,000), along with funding from the Section 7.12 Developers Contribution fund of $295,000. (Armidale Regional Council)
The Armidale Sportsground is Armidale’s premier sporting facility that hosts a variety of sporting competitions and large-scale events year-round. The venue has no formal off-street parking, with current onsite parking needing an upgrade due to inadequate storm water management and poor ground compaction.
The construction of a carpark will facilitate safe, off-street, all-weather parking for the public when there are sporting or major events at the venue. Along with providing a 64-car parking lot, it will also eliminate maintenance costs associated with repairs to the grassed areas currently used for parking. The project will also provide compliant disability parking on site and improve safety by separating vehicle and pedestrian access.
Construction associated with the upgrade of the carpark will commence no earlier than 7am on weekdays, and 8am on weekends (where weekend work is approved). Council staff and contractors will do their best to complete the work as quickly as possible, with work to conclude by 5pm in most circumstances.
Vehicle access to and from the Sportsground will be via the Dumaresq street entry, with the Douglas street access being closed to the public, forming part of the site compound.
