Visitor Information Centre puts call out for volunteers

Are you passionate about the Armidale region? Do you enjoy meeting people from all walks of life?
The Armidale Visitor Information Centre (VIC) is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join the team – and showcase our region to the over 50,000 visitors and locals who call in each year!
“Volunteers work alongside experienced staff to assist visitors and locals by providing information about attractions, events, accommodation, dining, retail, services, and so much more,” said Kath Brazier, Armidale Regional Council’s VIC Team Leader.
“The VIC operates seven days a week, giving volunteers a variety of roster options to choose from. No previous experience is required, just a positive attitude, friendly manner and a desire to help people!
“We offer comprehensive in-house training to help new team members feel confident in their role. Volunteers can participate in familiarisation tours, visiting natural attractions and accommodation and tourism operators. They gain first-hand knowledge, and the expertise needed to encourage visitors to explore more and stay longer in our local area.”
Visitors to the VIC have access to an impressive selection of maps and information, including brochures covering special-interest topics such as birdwatching, mountain biking and bushwalking. A small gift shop carries a wide range of souvenirs and locally crafted gifts.
“It is also a port-of-call for new or potential residents who can pick up a ‘Welcome to Armidale’ pack containing valuable resources to help them make the most of life in Armidale!”
Ms Brazier said that the VIC is also seeking volunteers to act as guides aboard the Heritage Bus Tour, which departs the Centre at 10am each day, Monday to Friday.
“Visitors gain a special insight into the history and heritage of Armidale on the tour, which continues to be one of our most popular visitor experiences,” she said.
“As a member of the tourism team, whether helping out in the VIC, or aboard the Heritage Tour, all our volunteers are highly valued and recognised for their commitment and involvement. We encourage anyone over the age of 18 who would like to give this rewarding experience a try to get in touch!”
