The Armidale Companion Animal Shelter cares for animals that are in need of a safe and loving home, whether they have been found lost, surrendered or abandoned. We have both cats and dogs that are looking to be adopted by a loving new family.

Monday to Friday: 9am-11am & 2:30pm - 5:30pm Saturdays : 9am-10am
The shelter is closed Sunday and public holidays.
Incoming Animals
Dogs and cats brought to the shelter are held for a statutory holding period of 7 days if not microchipped and 14 days if they have either a microchip or a tag on the collar. Once the holding period has lapsed, the animal ownership is automatically transferred to the Armidale Companion Animal Shelter under the authority of the Companion Animals Act. The shelter then has the responsibility to rehome the animal where possible.
If you are the owner of one of these animals, you need to contact the shelter on 6770 3994 to arrange for it's release to you urgently.
If you are surrendering a dog or cat there are associated fees with this:
Surrender fee: $200
Release fee: $84 in the first instance and $152 thereafter
Sustenance: $30 per day
Volunteer program
The Armidale Companion Animal Shelter has an active volunteer program. The volunteers assist with the welfare of the animals being by providing enrichment, social interaction, some cleaning, training and grooming as well as other activities to help make the shelter a great place for the animals and those considering adopting a new pet into the family. Volunteers who are in a position to provide the Shelter with assistance are provided with an induction to the Companion Animal Shelter and may receive training to assist in areas such as, animal grooming, animal training, exercising the animals, grounds maintenance and general assistance subject to demand.
