The adoption process

Adopting a pet is an easy and fulfilling process.

Step 1: Find an available pet

To find a pet you may like to adopt, visit the Armidale Companion Animal Shelter or have a look on their Facebook page.

Shelter hours:
Monday to Friday: 10am-1pm & 2:30pm, 2:30pm - 5pm
Saturdays : 9am-11am
The shelter is closed Sunday and public holidays.

Step 2: Visit the shelter or give the shelter a call

To find out if the pet of your choice is suitable for you and your circumstances, its best to have a chat with our Ranger at the shelter. Most pets will have requirements or suggested environments that would best for them. (i.e fencing, young children, etc)

Step 3: Meet the pet

Once you;ve established with Councils ranger that the pet may be suitable for you, you’re able to meet the pet and see if there is a connection. If you have an existing pet at home, you will be able to bring them to meet and ensure they will get along together in your pets new home.

Step 4: Adopt your new pet!

Now it’s time to make it official! Legally adopting your pet is a simple process that requires minimal paper work and the payment of the below adoption fee. If your new pet is not desexed or microchipped, the Ranger will make arrangements, and you will be able to pick up your new pet once this has been completed.

Adoption fees:

Dog: $450
Cat: $400

This includes desexing, microchipping, vaccination, lifetime registrations.

Please note: If reclaiming an animal that has been held at the shelter, animals will not be released unregistered or un microchipped.
