Armidale’s community heroes will be celebrated as part of 2024 International Volunteer Day (IVD) with an event at the Armidale City Bowling Club.

Local volunteers and volunteer groups will be invited to attend the event run by Armidale Volunteer Referral Service on behalf of Armidale Regional Council (ARC) on December 4.

IVD was mandated by the UN General Assembly in 1985 and is held each year on December 5.

The day is viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and volunteer-involving orgaisations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values and to promote their work among their communities.

“We are looking forward to celebrating and thanking our local volunteers for another year’s contribution to the well-being of our community,” said Jane Davies, ARC’s Volunteer Centre Co-ordinator.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our community, giving their time and energy to uplift those around them and give time to so many community events and activities.

“Every hour spent volunteering is an investment in our community’s future and we are grateful to have the opportunity to say thank you to all who choose to give."
