Armidale Regional Council has secured $345,000 in funding through the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program, led by Transport for NSW, to deliver a new event focussed on showcasing the region’s rich creativity in Armidale.

The Creative Streets Festival, funded for the next three years, will transform Armidale’s streets into vibrant hubs of creativity, celebrating the region’s rich arts and cultural scene. Featuring art, theatre, music, dance, innovation, and food, the event will showcase the talents of local performers, community groups, and emerging artists.

Beyond its cultural impact, the Creative Streets Festival is expected to provide a significant economic boost to the local economy and strengthen Council’s ongoing placemaking efforts, positioning Armidale as a benchmark for outstanding regional festivals.

Building on the success of previous events such as the Big Chill Festival, Autumn Festival, and Armidale Light Festival, Council is committed to delivering a packed calendar of meaningful and innovative experiences for the community.

Mayor Sam Coupland highlighted the importance of government funding in driving regional success.

“Regional events and festivals are catalysts for economic growth and contribute to the liveability of our communities,” said Mayor Sam Coupland. “This funding allows us to build on the vibrancy of our region and deliver a festival that celebrates local creativity while supporting our economy.”

“Our region’s creative sector is a thriving industry, that not only produces renowned works across many artistic pursuits, it is also a key driver in attracting visitors and new residents to our region.

“This Festival will celebrate the incredible talent we have in our community, as well as showcasing what the Armidale Region has on offer as a destination, and as the creative hub of Northern New South Wales.”

Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Marjorie O'Neill said: “We’re backing local councils to reclaim their main streets, hosting free events that support local jobs and businesses.”

“The last rounds of Open Streets events attracted more than a million people – I can’t wait to see even more people having a good time in their own communities.”

The Creative Streets Festival will kick off on Friday, 17 October 2025 and the arts installations will remain in the CBD for the month until 9 November 2025 for the community to experience.
