The Biosecurity and Weeds Management team plays a vital role in protecting our region’s natural environment, agricultural productivity, transport networks and public spaces. With a strong commitment to sustainability and community safety, the team delivers a range of services designed to monitor, manage, and mitigate the impact of invasive plant species across the Armidale region.

Following the recent transition from the New England Weeds Authority (NEWA) to Team ARC, the team continues to provide the same trusted services to the community.

What we do

Weed Spraying Across the Region

Targeted weed spraying is conducted throughout urban and rural areas, particularly following slashing or hand vegetation control. These operations are carefully timed and executed to avoid environmental damage, with strict adherence to safety standards and pesticide regulations.

Weed Management and Control

The team actively monitors vegetation growth that may obstruct signage, traffic signals, or pedestrian zones. They intervene promptly to address noxious and environmental weeds, especially in high-risk areas such as road reserves, rest areas, and fire-prone zones.

Weed Inspections and Biosecurity Surveillance

Regular inspections are carried out at high-risk sites including truck stops, landfills, saleyards, and quarries. Private property inspections focus on priority weed infestations in areas like Guyra, Tenterdon, Aberfoyle, and Ben Lomond.

Community Engagement and Education

The team also collaborates with local stakeholders and educational institutions to raise awareness about biosecurity risks.
