Water Drops: Council strengthens water strategy ahead of NEREZ growth

In 2032, the New England Renewable Energy Zone (NEREZ) is expected to bring a significant influx of workers and residents to the Armidale region, drastically increasing the demand for water. This could strain the already limited water resources.

In March 2020, Armidale Regional Council started lobbying the government as part of its water security strategy. The Council has engaged with the NSW Government and other stakeholders to secure funding and support for various water infrastructure projects.
