Bin and Collection FAQs

How should I present my bins for collection?

To help ensure your bin collection runs smoothly and enables our drivers to pick up, empty and replace your bins safely, it's important to:

  • Put bins out before 6am on the day of collection or the night before
  • Position the bin facing the road
  • Leave at least one metre apart from recycling crates, trees, telegraph poles and other obstacle
  • Return your bin to your property as soon as you can after collection

How do I replace a damaged or lost bin?

For replacement red-lid or green-lid bins, please call the Waste Hotline on 1300 136 322.

Additional and replacement recycling crates can be collected from the Armidale Waste Management Facility, or Guyra Waste Management Transfer Station.

Please note that additional recycling crates will be provided at a fee.

How do I request an additional bin?

Any additional red-lid or green-lid bins can be requested via the online 'Garbage Service Request Form'.
Please note that this form is to be used by agent and property owners only.
If you are a tenant, please ensure either your agent, or the property owner completes this form.

Additional recycling crates can be purchased from the Armidale Waste Management Facility at 108 Long Swamp Road, Armidale NSW 2350.

Crate and lid: $37
Crate only: $25
Lid only: $12

Why do we use crates to recycle in Armidale?

The crate system has been named the best practice source separation to achieve a very low contamination rate. Low contamination in our recycling mean's a higher quality of recycled product.

Council operates a two-component recycling collection service.

  • One crate should be sorted to contain clean paper and cardboard (crate with lid) and,
  • One crate (without lid) to contain cans, glass and plastic bottles and other recyclable containers all rinsed and with lids removed.

A new addition to our recycling crates is plastic bags! Simply place your plastic bags (tied off into one plastic bag) and any soft plastics you can crumple with your hands in the recycling crate without the lid.

Additional crates can be purchased by residents as required at the Armidale Waste Management Facility at 108 Long Swamp Road, Armidale NSW 2350.

Can I leave out more than 2 recycling crates each week?

Residents can leave out an unlimited number of recycling crates, as long as the recyclables are sorted correctly. Extra crates can be purchased from the Armidale Waste Management Facility.

Alternatively, other weather-proof crates or large containers purchased elsewhere can be used as long as the container for paper and cardboard is covered with a lid. This helps to avoid contamination.

What do I do with bulky waste?

Materials that cannot fit in your bins can be taken for disposal to the Armidale Waste Management Facility. The Armidale Waste Management Facility accepts bulky wastes for disposal or recycling according to Council’s standard fees and charges.

Items in good condition can also be donated to the Secondhand Goods Shop on-site at the Armidale Waste Management Facility.

Remember Penalties apply for illegal dumping in the Armidale region! More about illegal dumping HERE
