The Armidale Sportsground Carpark Upgrade has officially been completed, marking a significant milestone in improving access and safety at one of the region’s most popular sporting venues.
The $509,421 (excluding GST) project has delivered a sealed 64-space carpark, including compliant disability parking, new footpaths, and enhanced vehicle and pedestrian access. The upgrade was jointly funded by the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Phase 4 program ($135,000) and additional Council contributions. ($374,421).
Mayor Sam Coupland said the completed works will benefit the community for years to come. “This upgrade ensures that visitors to the Armidale Sportsground can enjoy safer, more convenient access to events and competitions,” Mayor Coupland said. “It’s a great example of Council investing in infrastructure that supports active lifestyles and community connection.”
The new layout improves traffic flow and pedestrian safety, while also reducing long-term maintenance costs and improving stormwater management.
“It’s great to see Council investing in infrastructure that supports local sport,” said Armidale Sports Council member, Mike Porter. “The new carpark makes a big difference for families and visitors, especially during busy events. Improvements like this show that Council is listening to the needs of the community and helping make our facilities more accessible and welcoming.”
