Armidale Regional Council hosted a morning tea and award presentation as part of celebrations to mark International Day of People with Disability 2024.
Councilors, council staff, and members of Council's Access Advisory Committee gathered with the community outside the Civic Administration Building in Armidale for the event.
The Armidale Regional Council Steve Austin Access Awards recognise those who are demonstrating extraordinary commitment and delivering exceptional benefit for locals living with disability. The community was invited to nominate individuals, businesses, and organisations for an award - to recognise effort that ensures we are living in a place that is accessible to everyone in our community.
After receiving a large number of impressive nominations, the Access Advisory Committee was pleased to be able to recommend the following awards which were presented by Mayor Sam Coupland:
Armidale City Bowling Club - Armidale Regional Council Steve Austin Access Award for Business in recognition of outstanding commitment to accessibility and inclusion within the Armidale region. This business' dedication to ensuring physical access to their premises, freedom of movement within spaces, and fostering a supportive environment through exceptional staff attitude and assistance exemplifies the values of the Steve Austin Access Awards.
Each of these people, businesses, and organisations are leading by example to create a community where everyone feels welcome and valued. They're making a lasting impact in our community.
