Council's offices will be closed from COB Tuesday 23 December 2025 and will reopen Monday 5 January 2026
Council has implemented a Bridge Renewal Strategy that since 2017 has been progressively replacing aged timber bridges throughout the Armidale region with new concrete structures. With 31 structures originally identified under the program, we have completed 16 construction upgrades and one temporary alternative construction with a further 14 timber bridge structures remaining.
Of the 14 remaining timber structures we currently have four bridges under current construction shown below that are due for final completion by July 2025

Council was recently successful in receiving funding from Fixing Country Bridges for four bridges and these bridges are currently under construction and due to completed by end of current 24/25 financial year. The four bridges are:
Council is also renewing components of other timber bridges listed below to reduce any current or potential load limit restrictions and ensure access is available to our rural communities and agricultural business. This is an interim solution until we can source major upgrade funding.
Gara River Bridge – Herbert Park Road – Bridge strengthened; access restriction removed
Melrose Road Bridge – Melrose Road - Bridge strengthened; access restriction removed
Branch Creek Bridge – Lower Creek Road - Bridge strengthened; access restriction removed
Abington Creek Bridge – Dulvay Road
Burns Gully Bridge – Platform Road – Repairs to maintain bridge until replacement in 2025/26
Boundary Creek Bridge – Sissons Road
Willis Creek Bridge – Tenterden Road – Bridge to be strengthened and access restriction removed
Oaky River Bridge – Wakefield Road – Repairs to maintain bridge until replacement in 2026/27
Exmouth Road Bridge – Exmouth Road
