Electric vehicle charging stations
A growing number of electric vehicles (EVs) are registered and visiting the Armidale region, helping create a cleaner, quieter and lower emissions city.
To accelerate the community’s transition to electric vehicles and reinforce Council’s leadership in sustainability, Armidale Regional Council installed two superfast electric vehicle chargers in Cinders Lane. This project significantly expanded public access to reliable, high speed EV charging infrastructure - benefiting residents, visitors, and local businesses alike.
The roll-out of public EV charging infrastructure strongly aligns with Council’s long‑term vision and strategic priorities as described in the Community Strategic Plan, the Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS), and the Brilliant Regions Strategy. It also directly supports Council’s EcoARC and Project Zero30 targets by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and showcasing tangible action in building a cleaner future for the community.
The chargers are powered by 100% renewable energy from Armidale Regional Council's power purchase agreement.
Where to charge your EV
Armidale Regional Council owns and operates four EV charging bays in Armidale's CBD at Cinders Lane Carpark.
Private companies have also installed public chargers on the kerbside, in shopping centre carparks and at accommodation providers across Armidale region.

EV parking rules and restrictions
Only EVs that are actively charging can park in designated EV charging bays. Designated bays feature an EV-only logo painted on the road surface and have ‘EV-only whilst charging’ parking signs. Non-EVs, as well as EVs that are not charging while parked in a designated EV charging bay, may be issued with a parking penalty notice. Please be courteous to other EV drivers and move your vehicle as soon as charging is complete.
Parking time limits apply to EV charging bays, irrespective of whether your charging session is complete. Please check the signage at each location. If you exceed the time limit, you may be fined.
