Armidale Regional Council will undertake a full reconstruction of an 870-metre section of Kelly's Plains Road, commencing south of Translator Road. Works are scheduled to begin on 3 August and are expected to take approximately three months to complete, weather permitting. The project is funded through Council's General Fund.
This section of road has been identified for rehabilitation due to significant pavement failure and poor drainage, both of which have impacted the road's condition and long-term performance. The reconstruction will improve the road surface, drainage, safety and reliability for all road users.
During construction, traffic conditions will change to allow the work to be completed safely. The road will operate under single-lane traffic arrangements during work hours, with two-way traffic restored outside working hours where possible. A reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will apply through the worksite and may be lowered further if required.
Residents and road users can expect increased construction activity and associated noise between 7am and 5pm on workdays. Property access may be temporarily affected while new accesses are constructed, with Council staff working directly with impacted property owners to coordinate access arrangements.
Traffic management signage and controls will be in place throughout the project to ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians and construction crews. Council appreciates the community's patience and cooperation while these important road improvements are carried out.
