Armidale Regional Council is delivering a new pedestrian footpath along Kentucky Street to improve safety, accessibility and connectivity between key cultural, educational and community destinations.

The project will provide a continuous pedestrian link along Kentucky Street between Taylor Street and Dangar Street, helping close a gap in the existing footpath network and making it easier for residents and visitors to move safely through the area. The project will strengthen connections to important community facilities including the Aboriginal Cultural Centre & Keeping Place, Museum of Education, New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM), Armidale City Gymnastics Club and surrounding residential neighbourhoods.

Project updates

September 2026 | Project update

Work is continuing to progress on the Kentucky Street Footpath project, with several key sections now nearing completion.

The new footpath between the Armidale City Gymnastics Club and Dangar Street is now complete, providing an important connection within the city's pedestrian network. Construction of the footpath between NERAM and the Gymnastics Club is also almost complete, while crews are scheduled to finish concrete pouring for the section between NERAM and Taylor Street early next month.

Once the remaining concrete works are complete, contractors will move on to the final stages of the project, including the installation of solar path lighting, fabricated access ramps and safety railings at various locations along the route.

The project is creating a continuous pedestrian link between Taylor Street and Dangar Street, improving accessibility, safety and connectivity between key community destinations including NERAM, the Museum of Education, the Aboriginal Cultural Centre & Keeping Place and the Armidale City Gymnastics Club.

Construction remains on track for completion in late October.

Pedestrians are reminded to take care when travelling through the area, follow all traffic control signage and remain outside any fenced or taped-off construction zones while works are underway.
