The annual Clean Up Australia Day event in Armidale was a resounding success, with the community and students from various schools in Armidale uniting to tackle local litter and waste in a bid to promote a cleaner, greener environment.

On Sunday 2 March, schools and community members joined forces for a community-wide clean up effort, working together to remove rubbish from streets, parks, and public spaces across Armidale. The event kicked off at Curtis Park, where participants gathered before heading out on the creeklands. The clean-up saw enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and local residents, all committed to making a tangible difference in the community.

The clean-up not only provided a chance for local youth to actively engage in environmental stewardship but also highlighted the importance of reducing waste, recycling, and caring for the natural world. The collaborative effort brought the community together and created a sense of shared responsibility for the environment.

After a successful morning of cleaning, participants gathered for a well-earned sausage sizzle, allowing the community to relax, enjoy some delicious food, and celebrate their collective achievement.

In support of the event, Armidale Regional Council (ARC) Mayor Sam Coupland expressed his gratitude for the community’s involvement: "I am incredibly proud of the efforts demonstrated by the students and the entire community in today’s Clean Up Australia Day initiative. It’s heartening to see our local youth take such an active role in protecting and preserving the environment for future generations. Events like these are a reminder of how important it is for us all to care for our surroundings and work together to ensure a cleaner, greener Armidale. Thank you to everyone who participated."

With Clean Up Australia Day complete, Armidale’s spirit of environmental responsibility continues to grow throughout the community.

“This event proved that when we work together, we can make a significant difference,” said Mayor Coupland.
