Council conducts random kerbside bin audits to improve waste practices

Armidale Regional Council is reminding residents that from time to time, random kerbside bin audits are carried out as part of best practice across all councils to help improve recycling and reduce contamination.

These audits are:

• Random – to avoid influencing how bins are presented.
• Anonymous – no personal details are recorded.
• Compliant – carried out according to strict EPA methodology.

Council emphasises that these audits are not about targeting individuals but about gathering data to improve waste management for the whole community.

The audit team carries official identification and works under Council instruction

Council will use the collected data to guide future waste strategies, improve resource recovery, and help achieve NSW’s ambitious targets—an average 80% resource recovery rate and a 10% reduction in total waste generation by 2030, along with halving organic waste to landfill and net zero emissions from organic waste by 2030.

By working together, we can ensure our waste and recycling systems remain efficient and environmentally responsible.
