Armidale will once again become the creative heart of regional NSW this October as the Creative Streets Festival returns with an expanded program of arts, culture, food and entertainment.
The festival will launch with a spectacular free opening night street festival on Saturday 17 October 2026, transforming Armidale's CBD into a vibrant celebration of creativity and community before continuing through to Sunday 8 November with three weeks of events and experiences across the region.
This year's opening night promises an immersive experience for residents and visitors alike, featuring an exciting mix of music, art, performance and interactive experiences. Audiences can enjoy performances from headline artist Keyim Ba, the crowd-favourite CLIPPED! Karaoke, the thought-provoking Oracle of Time art installation, and explore the imaginative medieval-inspired world of The Pine Forest, alongside a diverse program of performers, artists, workshops and cultural experiences.
With major streets closed to traffic and filled with creativity, opening night will invite festival-goers to see the Armidale Region through a fresh perspective while celebrating the people, stories and ideas that make the community unique.
Armidale Regional Council Mayor Sam Coupland said the festival had quickly become one of the region's signature cultural events.
"Creative Streets is a celebration of everything that makes our region vibrant, innovative and connected. It's an opportunity to showcase our local artists, performers, businesses and community groups while welcoming visitors to experience Armidale at its creative best,” Mayor Coupland said.
"Opening Night is shaping up to be an unforgettable experience, with something around every corner. Whether you're interested in live music, visual arts, culture, food or interactive experiences, there will be plenty to discover."
Beyond opening night, the festival expands into a three-week program that showcases some of the region's most loved events and attractions.
The broader festival calendar includes popular events such as the New England Garden Festival and the Black Gully Festival, alongside a range of exhibitions, performances, workshops and community-led activities taking place across the Armidale Region. Together, these events create an extended celebration of creativity that encourages visitors to stay longer, explore more and experience everything the region has to offer.
A major focus for 2026 is the introduction of Festival Eats, a new initiative designed to bring local businesses into the festival experience.
As part of the festival, cafés, restaurants, pubs and food operators are invited to craft a Creative Streets-inspired menu item, special offer or signature dish, available for $25 or less and featured during the festival period. Festival Eats aims to encourage visitors to explore local venues while giving businesses an opportunity to showcase their creativity and connect with festival audiences.
"Festival Eats will add another layer to the festival experience, encouraging people to explore our cafés, restaurants and hospitality venues while discovering the creativity that exists right across our community."
Residents, visitors, artists and businesses are encouraged to get involved and be part of the Creative Streets Festival 2026.
