Armidale Regional Council (ARC) is pleased to announce the completion of the Stage 2 and 3 upgrades to solar lighting along the city’s popular bike track network, enhancing safety and accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians alike.

Proudly funded by the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund – Round 5, the Stage 2 upgrade has extended lighting from the University of New England (UNE) to Markham Street, significantly improving visibility and safety along this key active transport corridor.

Thanks to cost savings achieved during Stage 2, Council was able to install an additional seven solar lights along the bike track dissecting Elizabeth Park, further expanding the reach and impact of this important infrastructure upgrade.

Stage 3 continues this momentum, delivering lighting enhancements that support the community’s growing use of Armidale’s active transport networks and align with Council’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure and public safety.

ARC Mayor, Sam Coupland was pleased with the delivery of this project, highlighting the collaborative efforts between Council and the community.

“This project is a shining example of how smart investment and community-focused planning can deliver safer, more sustainable infrastructure for Armidale.”

“We’re especially grateful to neighbourhood watch member Kate Clare, whose proactive approach in raising this safety concern with Council helped spark the improvements we see today. Her advocacy is a great example of how local voices can lead to meaningful change.”

Council thanks the NSW Government for its continued support and investment in regional infrastructure and acknowledges the collaborative efforts of staff, contractors, and community members who helped bring these upgrades to completion.
