New at the Armidale Folk Museum! Join me for one - or both! - bookbinding workshops and discover the joy of modern twists on an artisan skill as we explore two decorative book binding methods.
In the morning, we will create two Japanese Stab bound notebooks using traditional handmade screenprinted Japanese chiyogami and Nepalese lokta papers.
In the afternoon, we will create a multi-section book block and learn the skills behind the ancient braided coptic stitch to make a custom lay-flat notebook.
You'll be guided step-by-step through each process, from preparing your materials to completing your finished pieces - no previous stitching experience is required. Along the way, you'll also gain an introduction to the technical foundations behind bookbinding, giving you insight into how books of many styles are constructed.
Perfect for beginners and creatives alike, this is a calm, satisfying workshop - all materials and tools, tea and coffee provided.
