Dying to Know Day (D2KDay) is a national event that was launched in 2013, and it takes place annually on August 8th. This is our second event, last year in collaboration with Sustainable Deathcare New England, D2KDay which was attended by over 60 people! This year we again have some amazing speakers covering a range of topics including Aboriginal perspectives, Fijian traditions, insights from one of our local palliative care nurses and more.
It is a day of action, to encourage open and honest conversations about death and dying across Australia. Its purpose is to challenge the silence around these topics and empower individuals to take control of their end-of-life decisions. By creating a culture of awareness and preparedness, D2KDay aims to make discussions about mortality more approachable and less stigmatised, helping people feel confident in making their own plans for the future. It will be an opportunity to reflect, connect, and hear about what’s happening in our community around death and dying.
On display will be a beautiful handwoven coffin, recently created during a community workshop (see below). Stay for light refreshments afterwards and continue the conversation in good company. The fire will be going to keep us warm and everyone is welcome.
