KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: Work for the Dole and Volunteer Work

The Australian Unemployed Workers Union is inviting the community to a forum about Work for the Dole, Volunteer Work under ‘mutual’ obligations and your legal rights, in Armidale, 11 am Wednesday 29 July, at the Town Library.

While Work for the Dole and mutual obligation programs are promoted as pathways to employment, the evidence tells a different story. Many people are undertaking activities including unpaid work under threat of having their payments suspended, despite these programs doing little to improve employment outcomes.
If unemployed people are required to perform unpaid work to prove their deservingness, public attention is diverted from larger questions concerning job creation, public investment, industrial policy and income distribution.
Whether you're unemployed, a union member, an advocate, or simply concerned about fairness at work, we'd love to see you there.
