Mozart’s Vespers in 29 March Market Sunday Concert
The Music on a Market Sunday Concert on 29 March (Palm Sunday) at 12:30pm in the Armidale Uniting Church features the Armidale Choral Society singing Mozart’s Vesperae Sollenes (Solemn Vespers).
Although this work adopts the solemn text of the Vespers service, the music sets out to imitate the words with beautiful sounds to reflect the texts. The result offers some sparkling music that shows Mozart at his brilliant best.
Mozart manages to set the solemn purpose of worship in a joyous exercise in praise of God. The truly ‘solemn’ song at the centre of this set of pieces is the very famous Laudate Dominum for soprano solo.
This work will be conducted by Graham Maddox and accompanied by Robyn Bradley. There will be a local soloist and a quartet of solo voices from among the Choristers.
Admission to the concert is free, though donations are encouraged. Tea and Suasages will be available at the Uniting Church before the concert.
