Guyra WTP critical upgrade and maintenance from 8-12 December 2025

WTP landscape.png

This week, Guyra Water Treatment Plant will be temporarily out of service to dismantle and install a new Aluminium Sulfate (Alum) dosing unit, a critical component of the water treatment process. The team will also undertake a deep clean of the treatment plant while it is off-line. As a result, reservoir levels are expected to drop, and we need your help to maintain essential supply. Please avoid watering gardens, washing vehicles, filling pools, or cleaning paths during this time.

Armidale Regional Council’s water team is working to address recent concerns about taste and odour in the town’s water supply.

Specialist crews are conducting inspections across key locations and performing targeted water testing to identify and resolve the issue. These proactive measures include flushing sections of the network and adjusting treatment processes to eliminate the issue and maintain water quality compliance to the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

Council assures residents that Guyra’s treated water remains safe to drink, and the current work focuses on improving taste and odour standards.

What’s Happening?

  • Field inspections and sampling at affected sites.
  • Laboratory testing to confirm water quality.
  • Network flushing and treatment adjustments to remove residual odour.

We encourage residents to report any ongoing odour issues using the online form rather than posting complaints on social media. This helps our water team take swift action and resolve problems as quickly as possible. For reporting the issue, please scan the QRCODE to fill out the form below.
